Schumacher is committed to doing its part to protect the planet by conducting
business in an environmentally responsible manner and providing beautiful yet
eco-friendly choices. The green leaf logo designates products that meet Schumacher’s
standards for sustainability.
To receive the green leaf designation, products must meet two or more of the
following established standards:
Sustainable Fabrics
Schumacher’s sustainable
fabrics include solids, stripes, checks and
herringbone, luxurious velvets and microfibers. The collections feature linen,
a natural, non-allergenic fiber that can be finished without using harmful
dyes or chlorine bleach; jute, a fully biodegradable, quickly renewable fabric
resource that provides natural UV protection; and velvet from a mill that practices
safe dyeing, bleaching and finishing processes.
Sustainable Wallcoverings
Schumacher’s environmentally
conscious wallcoverings use all-natural
materials, natural wheat-based glue and environmentally safe dyeing processes.
The sustainable wallcoverings selection includes grasscloth, sisal and paper
weaves.
Schumacher Partners with WaterAid
More than one billion people around the globe, many of them children, lack access to safe, clean water. For them, water is a luxury. As part of its commitment to a healthier planet for all, Schumacher proudly supports the efforts of WaterAid America, a leading not-for-profit organization dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation, and hygiene education to the world’s poorest people. These basic services underpin health, education and livelihoods; they form the first essential step in overcoming poverty. Given the textile industry’s heavy use of water in the manufacturing process of fabrics, the partnership between WaterAid and Schumacher is a natural one. To assist WaterAid’s mission, Schumacher will contribute 2% of the proceeds from the sale of the By Nature collection to WaterAid America. Luxury without compromise.
